Integrity Report

Academic integrity is a major part of a university student’s life. Academic integrity means; students are responsible for the information they use and that they must treat that information with respect and honesty. Students must cite and reference correctly to avoid plagiarism.

Plagiarism is taken very seriously in the university world, there are rules that need to be followed and if those rules are not followed, there are consequences for it.

When a student is caught plagiarising (cheating) most of the time, it’s not because the student deliberately stole information but because they didn’t know how to reference properly and this responsibility falls to the student o learn. However, there are those students that deliberately steal another’s work and pass it off as their own, some examples are; downloading completed essay off the internet (paying for them) or asking another student to do the work for them (Brick, 2006, p. 128).

There is a way to avoid plagiarism and it comes in the form of ‘Turnitin’, a piece of software developed to show a student where they have potentially plagiarised before they submit their work. It is highly recommended that you use this software before submitting any work to your tutors.
